Collaborative Practice can work for you!
Collaborative Practice offers you as an individual facing a life-changing situation a framework for focusing on your future, your goals and your interests. It allows you as a couple to address the legal issues that you face on separation and divorce in a respectful and reasonable way. This evolving process lets the two of you resolve these issues without assessing blame, and without the threat of the emotional and financial costs of going to court.
I have been involved in collaboration since 1995, when I was invited to join the Bay Area Collaborative Group, the first collaborative practice group in the state. I chaired that group in 1998. In 1999, I was one of three founders of the (San Mateo) Peninsula Collaborative Law Group, the local practice group to which I now belong. I co-chaired that group from 1999 to 2001, and am still on the Executive Committee. I have been a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals since its earliest days, and a contributing author to its journal.
In addition to my legal training and experience, I have been a family law mediator since the late 1980's. I have successfully mediated divorces for scores of couples. In the last ten years, I have also assisted a growing number of folks who use the collaborative process. I rarely take on litigated cases. I find that the recognized alternatives to litigation - collaboration and mediation - are preferable for any family facing a divorce.
If you or someone you know is getting a divorce, I urge you to explore Collaborative Practice. If you would like more information about the process or me, please call me at (650) 579-1100.
